Four historical houses
This complex of three gabled houses features some of the oldest folk buildings in the Krkonose region and is a rare example of original town buildings.
These historical houses were saved at virtually the last minute in a reconstruction in 1976–1980. During the restoration work, the initials “WR” and the year 1623 were found inscribed on the gable board of one of the houses. They are an example of the town architecture of the Krkonose Mts. and the foothills, where the arcades in the squares and the main streets served to protect from the changing weather and as a place where the artisans living and working in the houses offered their goods.
A replica of the fourth house, a half-timbered building with a framed gable demolished in 1957, was built in 2009. They house the Krkonose Museum, run by the Krkonossky National Park Administration, and offer an exhibition on the folk art, folk crafts and history of Vrchlabi.
