Old Blacksmith’s Shop and the Chapel in Horejsi Vrchlabi
The old blacksmith’s shop is a protected national monument as it is one of the most valuable examples of traditional Krkonose architecture.
This timbered house is built on a brick ground floor. In the 1930s it was still in operation and the local blacksmith made and sharpened tools. The shop included a pub where the local farmers would enjoy elderberry schnapps and sausages. Opposite is a small chapel with a bell, consecrated to St. John of Nepomuk. This Baroque chapel was built in 1709, and has been a protected national monument since 1958. It has a traditional onion-shaped cupola with a lantern, the most prominent shape of the construction. The inner niche contains a porcelain statue of the Virgin Mary of Lourdes.
